Lord of the Ring and Lancashire

I’ve only seen the films and I wasn’t a huge fan to be honest, they were just a little long for me, although I did find them very atmospheric.  That may be something to do with the original author Tolkien finding much of his inspiration whilst studying at Stonyhurst College, near the village of Hurst Green just outside Clitheroe.

I had visited the College on business recently and it is a beautiful Grade 1 listed building,  You can just imagine what Tolkein might have seen on a bleak winter morning, and how this set the seen for many of his novels.

There is even a Tolkien Trail walk on Ribble Valley’s website.  And that’s why I’ve posted this, so that one day we can do the walk.
