Calder Vale

Calder Vale

Calder Vale sits by the River Calder on the edge of the Forest of Bowland. The road from Stricken Lane is only one-way. According to Wikipedia the name ‘Calder’ is possibly derived from the Old Norse world ‘kaldr’, meaning ‘cold’.

Lappet Mill sits in the centre of Calder Vale and makes clothing items for Asia but in 2005 it ran into difficulty and had to make some redundancies. Chinese counterfeits were believed to be part of the problem.

The village sits in a valley and is nice to visit in Spring, when the Bluebells are out and the trees are blossoming. There is usually ample space to park your car and the village has a number of walking routes from the church.
